Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (Foxconn), the maker of Apple Inc. products, confirmed a joint venture deal with Japan’s Sharp Corp. and exclusive agreement with Corning Inc..
Hon Hai Chairman Terry Gou said at the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting that the alliance with the Japanese company will allow Hon Hai to beat Samsung Electronics Co. in three to five years.
The Sakai plant also has an exclusive agreement with Corning Inc., an American manufacturer of glass, on large panel supply, he said. His competitors will not be able to secure any such material if they wished to, he added. Corning Gorilla Glass is already used on Apple devices such as the iPhone. Gou said he plans to list the factory on the Taiwan stock exchange within three years. This means Retina Display will be in Next-Generation iMac.
