Apple will not sell AppleCare warranty certificates in Italy. The standard warranty for Apple device is one year, while the Italian law requires 2 years. In this case, American company offers to use paid service AppleCare, providing an extra year warranty, while by the law this year should be free.
In December 2011, the Italian regulators penalised Apple for 900 000 euro for “Inability to inform customers about their rights in a field of maintenance and care.” In addition, regulators threatened temporally to close operations in the country, if the company would not inform consumers about their right for free two-year warranty.
According to an official notice, from November 9 Apple stopped selling of Apple Store certificates AppleCare Protection Plan. In addition, iPhone and iPad producer has stopped to make such certificates among its partners.
At the same time, the Italian buyers can still purchase AppleCare Protection Plan on its website. There warranty certificate is described as a product with the added benefits as to compulsory two-year warranty required by Italian law.
